Neale Donald Walsh began writing books after having a mystical experience. The very first work, entitled “Conversations with God,” became a bestseller. The author gained worldwide fame, recognition, and success.

Youth years

Neil Walsh was born on September 10, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, into an American Catholic family. The desire for spiritual quests manifested itself from childhood and was encouraged by adults.

He graduated from a Catholic school. More than other students, he was interested in issues of life and religion. This amazed his parents and teachers. They constantly wondered: where did he absorb all this wisdom?

To obtain higher education, Walsh entered one of the colleges at the University of Wisconsin. But his heart was not in academic sciences. He dropped out of school and entered the broadcasting industry. He started working at the age of 19.

Career

As for the professional plan, Neil Walsh developed in many ways. He has held positions such as radio station program director, newspaper reporter, editor-in-chief, and public relations specialist.

He didn't just jump from one job to another. Thus, the existential richness of his inner world was reflected in his actions. He preferred to live in his own way, and not “as all normal people should.” He eventually founded his own public relations and marketing firm.

The turning point in the writer’s life was a letter

Neil Donald Walsh began creating Conversations with God in the spring of 1992, although he didn’t know about it then. I just wrote a letter to the Almighty...

He had a habit, formed over the years, of writing messages to his “tormentors” that were never sent. He poured out his thoughts and feelings into a notebook specially designated for this purpose. This is how he usually let off steam.

In those years, Neil Walsh felt unhappy and believed that life had failed. Therefore, I decided to address the letter not to just anyone, but directly to God himself. The lines were filled with despair, bewilderment, reproach and angry questions. Why doesn't life work out? What did you do to deserve it? How to fix everything? It was a cry from the heart.

The future author, to his great amazement, began to receive answers. According to his own statements, the words sounded in his head. The voice saying them was soft and kind. He dictated the answers to all the questions written on paper.

These conversations were repeated several times. Walsh would wake up in the middle of the night to ask questions and write down the answers. This is how his communication with God began, and at the same time his work on the first book, which lasted for 3 years.

At first he did not believe in these recordings. Then he thought that they would be valuable to him personally. And only then did he realize that the text was not intended for him alone. Neil Walsh published conversations with the Creator. The notes from the notebook became bestsellers.

Unorthodox views on communication with God

Neil Walsh did not publish Conversations with God right away. Many publishing houses refused to cooperate. This upset him. Did he then imagine the scale of future circulations? The first book was published in 1995 and became an international bestseller.

The ideas of the book do not correspond to traditional ideas of a religious nature. Instead of a strict and punitive God, the concept of a kind and friendly God is proposed. There is no need to be afraid of this. He will not reproach or condemn. He has no reason to punish.

The goal of any life is one - to gain the experience of happiness. Everything else that a person thinks and does only serves it. The most amazing thing is that it is like an endless staircase. All the necessary knowledge is already within a person. He comes to this world to learn through experience what he already knows at the conceptual level. His life is a process of creation. Man does not discover, but creates himself anew. Therefore, you need to strive not so much to discover yourself, but to determine who you want to be.

Allows you to choose actions either from fear, which fetters, draws in, closes, or from love, which radiates, expands, develops. The inner voice - feelings, sensations, experiences, thoughts - is a divine radar that guides, sets a course, plots a route, if a person allows it to do so.

Prayer should be expressed in the form of gratitude for what does not yet exist. The request itself confirms the fact of a lack of something; as a result, the person receives precisely the experience of the absence of what he wants.

Film adaptation of the book

For 10 years, Walsh received offers to turn his book and life story into a film, but rejected them. However, one person was still able to persuade him - Steven Simon, aka Steven Deutsch.

"The Conversations" by Neale Donald Walsh made a lasting impression on Stephen. As a producer and director, he was always guided by his main rule: cinema should be from the heart. And his heart said: “Yes!”

On October 27, 2006, the film “Conversations with God” was shown for the first time in US cinemas. The plot tells about the dramatic events and life's vicissitudes that prompted the author to create the book. Neil Walsh was played by actor Henry Czerny.

Because I heard that God is not like how they describe him and inspire him, that we don’t need to be afraid of him and that he is so easy to love. And I felt it internally. The books are simply wonderful! Thank you so much for having them. Now for many of us they look like an ABC book. They have a lot of warmth and love, a lot of wisdom. Quiet a little and you will have a very unusual experience. Soon you will begin a conversation with God. Yes, yes, I know that this is impossible. I thought exactly the same thing. After that, this book happened to me. In the literal sense of the word. This book was not written by me - it happened to me. And as you read this book, it will happen to you, as we are all being led to the truth for which we are ready.

My life would probably be much easier if I kept quiet about all this. But that’s not why the book happened to me. And no matter what difficulties it brings to me (for example, they can call me a blasphemer, a deceiver, a hypocrite - because I did not live by these truths before - or, even worse, a saint), now I can no longer stop this process . I don't want to either. I had plenty of opportunities to avoid all this, and I did not take advantage of them. I decided to do with this material as my intuition tells me, and not as most of the world tells me.

And my intuition tells me that this book is not nonsense, not the fruit of a tired, desperate spiritual imagination, or an attempt at self-justification for a person who has lost his way in life. I thought about every single one of these possibilities. And he gave this material to several people to read when it was still in manuscript. They were touched. And they cried. And they laughed at the joyful and funny things that were in the text. And they said that their life became different. They have changed. They have become stronger.

Many readers said they were simply transformed.

Soon after this stuff started happening to me, I knew I was talking to God. Directly, in person. Without intermediaries. And I knew that God would answer my questions according to my ability to understand. That is, that I received answers formulated in such a way that I could understand them. Hence the simple, conversational style of the text and random references to material that I gleaned from other sources and my previous life experiences. I now know that everything that has ever happened to me in life came to me from God, and now it is all connected and brought together into an amazing and complete answer to every question I have ever asked.

And at some point along the way, I realized that this was a book—a book that should be published. Actually, I was specifically told at a certain point in this dialogue (in February 1993) that in fact they would be published three books:

1. The first will deal mainly with personal topics, it will focus on individual life, its problems and opportunities.

2. The second will touch upon more global topics of geopolitical and metaphysical life on the planet and the problems that the world is now facing.

3. The third will be devoted to consideration of higher universal truths, problems and opportunities of the soul.

I would now like to say that as I read and re-read these words with the wisdom contained within, I feel deeply embarrassed about my own life, which has been marked by mistakes and misdeeds, sometimes very shameful behavior and some choices and decisions that I am sure are considered others as strange and unforgivable. But while I am deeply remorseful for the pain I have caused others, I am incredibly grateful for all that I have learned and have yet to learn from all the people I have encountered in my life. I apologize to everyone for the slowness of this tutorial. At the same time, God advises me to forgive myself for all mistakes and failures and no longer live in fear and guilt, but always try, try, try to see more and more.

I know this is what God wants for each of us.
