The assumption began to be celebrated many years ago, almost immediately after the death of the Mother of God - Christians, despite the persecution of their religion, revered the Holy for Her deeds. The very word "assumption" commemorates death, or a sound sleep, and evokes very few joyful thoughts. But the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, first of all, is not the day of Mary’s death, it is a celebration of the reunion of the Son with the Mother in heaven.
When Jesus ascended to heaven, after crucifixion and resurrection, Mary remained on Earth, and for a rather long period of time she lived an earthly life. And so, during one of the prayers, Archangel Gabriel came down to Mary, who informed Her that in three days Her earthly life would come to an end. This news was very pleasing to the Mother of God, but before she died, she wanted to say goodbye to all the disciples of Jesus, who at that moment were scattered around the world. And at this moment a miracle happened - an unknown force transferred all Christ's close to Mary.
The next three days, Mary spent in prayer, waiting for her death, and when the time came, the room in which the Mother of God was located was illuminated with bright light. At the same time, the Savior Himself came down to Mary, surrounded by angels, to personally take away the soul of Mother.
After the death of Mary, Her body was buried in a cave, which was littered with stone. Apostle Thomas, who had not had time to say goodbye to Mary, was so upset that he was allowed to say goodbye to the holy remains, but when the cave was opened, the body was no longer in it. That same evening, all the apostles gathered at the table to honor the Mother of God, as She herself appeared to them, and said that now She would be with them forever.
